If you’re concerned about your toddler being a “late talker” or not reaching their communication milestones, I can help! Early intervention speech therapy combines play-based learning with parent coaching to help your child:
Build foundational skills for language— like imitating movements, sounds, and facial expressions, looking when they hear a voice, and using gestures
Learn relevant words and phrases for communication in daily life
Understand basic language concepts
Gain independence
Reduce frustration and tantrums
-
Speech sound errors can make it difficult for your child to be understood by others and can lead to frustration. In speech therapy, I’ll use personalized, evidence-based techniques and engaging activities to help your child:
Speak clearly
Use age-appropriate speech sounds
Adjust their rate of speech
Hear the difference between speech sounds
Communicate with confidence
-
Language disorders can make it difficult for children to listen, speak, read, write, and connect with other children. My language therapy sessions will address your child’s specific challenges in playful ways to help them:
Understand what they hear or read
Follow directions and answer questions
Develop new vocabulary
Create longer and more complex sentences
Confidently participate in school
Socialize with friends, classmates, and peers
-
In literacy therapy, we use multisensory systematic techniques to work on the building blocks of reading and writing. My goal is to give your child the skills they need to make reading easy and fun! Depending on your child’s individual challenges, literacy therapy will focus on helping them:
Understand the connections between letters and sounds
Develop phonemic and phonological awareness skills like rhyming and building up or breaking down words
Learn parts of a book and elements of a story
Master the "rules" for spelling
Improve vocabulary, reading fluency, and reading comprehension
Succeed in school
-
Does your child often feel stuck, unmotivated or distracted? Executive functioning (EF) refers to a group of skills needed for organizing, planning, and carrying out tasks in school and in daily life. My evidence-based sessions will focus on giving your child a whole toolbox of EF strategies to help them:
Focus their attention
Plan, organize, and begin a task
Think more flexibly
Gain self-awareness
Monitor their own behavior, progress, or performance
Control their impulses
Become more independent in daily life
Meet Your Speech Therapist
Olivia Fitzpatrick, M.S., CCC-SLP
Owner, Speech-Language Pathologist, PROMPT Trained
Hi, I’m Olivia! For more than seven years, I've had the privilege of supporting children and families across New York City in daycares, public schools, and private practice settings. My wide range of pediatric experience means I've been there through all chapters of children's lives, from birth through high school.
My specialty lies in connecting the dots between speech, language, literacy, and executive functioning. I know that communication is woven into every part of a child's life, from learning in the classroom to building friendships, so I focus on language skills needed in every aspect of life. I also know that therapy doesn't stop when the session ends, so I love equipping parents with personalized videos, activities, and strategies that work with their family's lifestyle.
Outside of speech therapy, you'll usually find me tackling a creative project or hunting for vintage treasures, from home décor to jewelry and handbags! I look forward to connecting with your family and learning how I can best support your child’s communication journey.

Frequently Asked Questions About Speech Therapy
-
A lot of parents come to me feeling confused about what's going on or comparing their child to a sibling or classmate who talked earlier or differently. That's normal. If you're noticing your child gets frustrated trying to communicate, isn't understood by family or teachers, or you just have a gut feeling something's off, that's worth a conversation.
I offer a free 15-minute consultation so we can talk through what you're seeing and figure out next steps together.
-
We start with an intake form and a conversation with you. From there I observe your child and use a mix of formal and informal assessments, depending on what fits your child and your situation. If it's helpful, I'll also loop in other people involved in your child's care, like teachers or a pediatrician, with your permission.
Once everything's reviewed, we sit down together to go over the results, talk through goals, and build a plan that makes sense for your family. You'll get a full report you can share with other providers too.

Executive functioning issues can look like a lot of things:
trouble starting homework
losing focus partway through a task
getting stuck on one way of thinking
struggling to notice when something isn't working
A lot of parents describe their child as unmotivated or distracted, when really they're missing the tools to plan, organize, and follow through.
I help clients build real strategies for staying on task, thinking flexibly, and managing impulses, so they leave with more self-awareness and a toolbox they can actually use.
-
Yes, this is within a speech therapist’s scope of practice.
Reading and writing are built on language, things like phonological awareness, vocabulary, and understanding sentence structure, and that's exactly where my training comes in.
I work on the foundational skills reading is built on: identifying letters and sounds, rhyming, breaking words apart and building them back up, and understanding the different parts of a story.
I use multisensory, systematic techniques, and because I look at literacy through a language lens, I can catch connections that get missed when reading is treated as a totally separate skill from speech and language.
-
A late talker is a toddler who isn't hitting expected language milestones. Maybe they have very few words, aren't combining words yet, or seem to understand more than they can say.
I work with toddlers to help them develop the foundational skills that come before spoken language: things like eye contact, turn-taking, gestures like pointing and waving, and imitating sounds and movements. From there we build functional words and phrases your child can actually use in daily life.
Early intervention through play helps toddlers communicate with less frustration so they can participate more fully at home, in daycare, and out in the world.
